LEDs use significantly less power (watts) than traditional incandescent or even fluorescents. Most retrofit projects will result in approximately 75% improvement in efficiency, thus reducing your utility bills! To see your projects potential savings check out our ROI Energy Savings Calculator. Let’s compare your standard household bulb, in the below chart. Savings are based off of use for 3 hours per day for 7 days per week.
LEDs average lifespan is much greater than that of an incandescent or fluorescents. That mean less times you have replace it, less times you have to purchase a replacement and less products ending up in the landfill. Let’s compare your standard household bulb with average Life Hours.
Incandescent A19 - 1000 Life Hours
CFL (Fluorescent) A19 - 10,000 Life Hours
LED A19 - 35,000 Life Hours
LED lasts approximately 35 times longer than incandescent.
LED lasts approximately 3.5 times longer than fluorescent.
Besides the fact that LEDs last longer so there will be less of them ending up in landfills and they consume less energy, there are also some other environmentally notable pros. LED products are lead and mercury free and made of non-toxic materials, requiring no special handling. They are also typically in a plastic-type material casing making them less prone to breaking during shipping or installation as oppose to glass. Since LEDs produce significantly less heat there is also a reduced potential for fires or burns.
LED emits most of their energy in the visible spectrum, smalls amounts in the infrared spectrum and virtually none in the ultraviolet spectrum. This is particularly beneficial as LEDs are safe to use with UV sensitive items such as art pieces that would normally degrade over time when exposed to halogen, fluorescent or direct sunlight.
LEDs work well in cold or hot temperatures without significant degradation. LEDs also turn on and off instantly and do not have to ‘warm up’ like traditional fluorescents or metal halides
